If you work in a high stress industry or have employees that you suspect that are coming in to do their jobs while under the influence of drugs, you might be tempted to drug test. However, you might not know if it is going to be a financially viable solution or if it is going to lower morale. Here are some questions that you should ask yourself in order to determine if drug testing at your company is a good choice that is going to be effective.

1. Does your company require employees to handle heavy equipment around others?

The first question that you should ask yourself is if your employees are in charge of handling heavy equipment around other people. If the answer to this question is yes, then you should absolutely consider drug testing your employees. Employees that come to work under the influence of drugs are putting everyone at risk because they might not be in the right frame of mind that would allow them to operate the heavy equipment and vehicles safely. This could be a problem for their coworkers who would be in danger if they lost control. In order to keep your workplace safe, definitely consider drug testing.

If your employees don't work with heavy equipment and are instead working behind a desk, you might not need to drug test, especially if productivity levels are where you want them to be. 2. Do you spend a lot of money on employee turnover?
